Building Information and Permits


Permits are required before performing any new construction or any addition, alteration or repair of existing buildings, structures, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical work (exception: all work which requires a permit, but is performed outside business hours for emergency reasons, must be submitted for permit the next business day).


Responsibilities and Services


  • Ensure the safety and welfare of the general public by enforcing building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical code regulations within the Town
  • Review residential building plans for compliance with the International Codes adopted by the Town
  • Review commercial and residential building plans for compliance with the Town's zoning regulations
  • Issue building permits for projects found to be in compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances
  • Perform building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical inspections and require compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances
  • Issue Certificates of Occupancy for businesses in the Town
  • Review, approve, and issue special permits such as structure-moving, temporary buildings, building demolition, and more
  • Oversee the Town's Water Protection Program ensuring that state and local cross-connection control regulations are enforced
